Sometimes we take our surroundings for granted, and then a visitor lights up and we see, in their eyes and words, what we have. Our familiarity has numbed us over the years.
I see that happen quite often in Southern California, and I am ashamed of myself for my apathy toward the majesty of the mountains and the rhythmic ocean tides. Let us never become numb to the nature of our beautiful America!
Though Ray Charles could not SEE America, he loved her, still. That was made quite evident in his superior version of "America The Beautiful."
And another Afro-American in the news now, Whitney Houston, loved her country, as evidenced by her now-famous rendition of America's National Anthem.
How about you? Do you love the nature of your country?
